Wind Farm HV Commissioning Australia
Independent EBoP Commissioning for Onshore Wind Projects
Australia’s onshore wind capacity exceeds 12 GW across more than 100 operating wind farms, with a further pipeline of projects in development across every state. The electrical balance of plant (EBoP) — everything from the turbine terminals to the grid connection point — must be independently commissioned to ensure safe energisation, grid compliance, and long-term operational reliability.
Megavar provides independent windfarm HV commissioning services for the complete EBoP scope, ensuring that the electrical infrastructure your wind farm depends on has been tested by an impartial party — not the same company that built it.
EBoP Scope We Commission
- Grid connection substation — HV switchgear (33–330 kV), power transformers, protection relays, CTs, VTs, earthing, SCADA/RTU, and communications.
- MV collector network — 33 kV ring main units, cable testing, feeder protection, and collector bus protection.
- Turbine step-up transformers — TTR, winding resistance, insulation resistance, and vector group verification.
- MV/HV cable systems — Insulation resistance, VLF withstand, and sheath integrity for collector and transmission cables.
- Protection systems — All substation and feeder protection including overcurrent, earth fault, differential, distance, anti-islanding, and NER protection.
- SCADA and wind farm controller — Integration of turbine SCADA with plant controller and NSP/AEMO control room. Active power curtailment, reactive power control, and frequency response.
- Earthing — Substation and turbine earthing resistance, step and touch potential, and bonding continuity across the wind farm.
Grid Compliance Testing
We execute AEMO R1 and R2 hold-point tests including active power capacity, reactive power capability, voltage control, frequency response (PFR, contingency FCAS), and fault ride-through. We also support commissioning of grid-forming inverter capability where specified.
