Calibration

All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. If your project requires a specific calibration interval, test standard, or documentation for a client submission, tell us at enquiry on 1300 730 499 and we will confirm what applies before you commit.

for HV Test Equipment

What is VLF testing and when is it used?
VLF (Very Low Frequency) testing applies a sinusoidal test voltage at 0.01–0.1Hz to stress cable insulation. It is the preferred method for field withstand testing of MV and HV cables because it stresses insulation comparably to power frequency but requires much less reactive power, making the test set portable. VLF testing is used for commissioning new cables, after-repair testing, and periodic maintenance assessment.
VLF testing applies an AC waveform at very low frequency, which stresses insulation in a similar manner to normal operating voltage. DC hipot testing applies a direct current voltage. For modern XLPE cables, VLF testing is strongly preferred because DC testing can create space charge accumulation in XLPE insulation, potentially causing damage. DC hipot is still appropriate for older paper-insulated lead-covered (PILC) cables and some other applications.
