Calibration

All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. What is primary injection testing and when is it required?
Primary injection testing involves injecting high current through the primary side of a current transformer (CT) to verify its ratio, polarity, and the correct operation of connected protection relays. It is required during substation commissioning, after CT replacement, following protection scheme modifications, and as part of periodic maintenance programs on transmission and distribution assets.
The CPC 100 alone outputs up to 100A AC. When paired with the CP CU1 coupling unit, the combined output reaches up to 800A AC, which is sufficient for primary injection testing on most distribution and transmission CTs. For applications requiring higher currents, we offer Red Phase injection sets capable of outputs exceeding 5000A.
Yes. The CPC 100 with CP CU1 is one of the most widely used solutions for earth grid impedance measurement, step and touch voltage testing, and ground resistance assessment. We supply the complete kit configured for earth testing applications, including appropriate test leads for the measurement distances involved.

Secondary injection testing applies test signals directly to the protection relay inputs to verify relay settings and operation. Primary injection testing applies real current through the primary side of CTs and the complete protection circuit, verifying the entire measurement chain from CT through to relay trip output. Both are typically required during substation commissioning.
