Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering company with 60+ staff across four Australian offices in Tasmania, South Australia, and New South Wales. We deliver substation commissioning, HV testing, maintenance, protection relay testing, SCADA integration, and HV design services for transmission utilities, renewable energy developers, and heavy industry clients.
We are looking for commissioning engineers, HV technicians, protection testers, substation designers, project managers, and support professionals who want to work on some of Australia’s most significant energy infrastructure projects, from BESS installations and wind farms to transmission upgrades and substation greenfield builds.

What qualifications do I need to work at Megavar?
Megavar hires people with a range of qualifications. For commissioning and testing roles, we typically look for an electrical trade certificate, an engineering degree, or equivalent experience in high voltage systems. For design roles, a degree in electrical engineering is preferred. All site-based staff require a current first aid certificate, and most roles require a valid Australian driver’s licence.
Does Megavar provide HV training for new starters?
Yes. Megavar operates a structured in-house training programme called Megaversity, which covers HV safety, test equipment operation, protection relay testing, and Megavar’s Technical Instructions (TIs). New starters also receive mentoring from experienced engineers and access to manufacturer training from Omicron and Megger.
Where are Megavar's offices located?
Megavar has four offices across Australia: Cambridge (Hobart), Tasmania (head office); Launceston, Tasmania; Adelaide, South Australia; and Newcastle (Mayfield), New South Wales. Project work may require travel to sites across all Australian states and territories.

What types of projects will I work on?
Megavar’s project portfolio includes high voltage substation commissioning, BESS (battery energy storage system) commissioning, wind farm and solar farm HV testing, transmission line commissioning, protection relay testing, transformer testing, switchgear maintenance, SCADA integration, and HV earthing design and testing. Projects range from 66kV distribution through to 500kV transmission.
