Omicron CM 588 GPS Synchronisation Unit. Hire from Megavar for GPS-synchronised power measurements across distributed network locations in Australia.
Description
The CMGPS 588 is a precision GPS time synchronisation unit developed for use with Omicron’s range of CMC test sets. It provides accurate time signals to enable synchronised testing of protection relays, IEDs, and substation automation systems, particularly within IEC 61850 environments. The unit acts as a grand master clock using PTP (Precision Time Protocol), delivering timing outputs such as IRIG-B and 1PPS. Its compact, antenna-integrated design and Power over Ethernet functionality make it ideal for on-site use in digital substations and distributed testing scenarios.
  • Integrated GPS antenna with rugged outdoor housing
  • Outputs synchronisation signals: PTP (IEEE 1588), IRIG-B, and 1PPS
  • Compatible with CMC test sets including CMC 356, 353, 430, and 500
  • Provides time synchronisation for IEC 61850 GOOSE and Sampled Values testing
  • Powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE) for simple field setup
  • Lightweight and portable – ideal for on-site substation use
  • Capable of synchronising multiple test devices or IEDs
  • Minimal configuration required – plug and play setup
  • Supports extended cable lengths up to approx. 95 metres

Calibration

All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. If your project requires a specific calibration interval, test standard, or documentation for a client submission, tell us at enquiry on 1300 730 499 and we will confirm what applies before you commit.
