Commonly required during commissioning before permanent terminations are made, for periodic maintenance testing needing temporary test access, and for factory acceptance testing. Applicable across Australian distribution and sub-transmission substations up to 36 kV nominal.
CONNEX test adapters are easy to order in the wrong size, and the wrong size is useless on the day. Megavar works with CONNEX systems on Australian substations as core business, so we will confirm the interface size against your plant before the unit leaves our store, and tell you if the test you are planning needs a different connector altogether.

All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. It provides a touch-proof, fully insulated test connection on switchgear, transformers and cable terminations fitted with Size 2 CONNEX sockets, without disturbing the permanent termination. It is used for high voltage withstand testing, insulation testing and primary injection, and as a transition connector between a CONNEX-equipped transformer and a bare overhead line.
Match the connector to the CONNEX socket size fitted to the plant, then to the test. Megavar hires four: the Size 0 grounding and current testing connector, 250 A at 2 kV; the Size 1 grounding and current testing connector, 630 A at 2 kV; and the Size 2 and Size 3 test and transition connectors, both 800 A at 42 kV maximum system voltage. Current injection and earthing use the Size 0 or Size 1 unit; withstand and insulation testing use the Size 2 or Size 3 unit. If the socket size is not on your drawings, send us the switchgear make and model and we will confirm it before dispatch.
No. The grounding and current testing connectors, Size 0 and Size 1, are rated 2 kV and are for current injection and earthing only. The Size 2 and Size 3 test and transition connectors are a different product family, rated 42 kV, for medium voltage testing. Ordering the wrong family costs a day on site, so ask Megavar if you are unsure.
The body has a 45 degree angle and is turnable, so it can be oriented to suit the access available around the socket. Field control is geometrical and the body is injection moulded silicone rubber and epoxy resin.
EN 50180, EN 50181 and DIN VDE 0278-629. It is rated for indoor and outdoor use from minus 25 to plus 50 degrees Celsius, at installation altitudes up to 1000 m above sea level.
