Megavar delivered HV testing and protection system commissioning for the Bluegrass BESS (Blue Grass) project in Queensland's Western Downs, working in partnership with
The HVX10 expands the CPX 200’s capability into insulation diagnostics and high-voltage ratio testing:
Megavar’s commissioning engineers perform tan delta, capacitance, and insulation resistance testing on transformer bushings and instrument transformers as routine work on transmission and distribution projects. We understand which assets need which test sequence, what acceptance criteria apply, and where common pitfalls arise, particularly on aged condenser bushings and instrument transformers in service.
When you hire the HVX10 from Megavar, you receive it pre-configured to attach to a CPX 200 (or with a CPX 200 in the same package), with current calibration, full accessories and a wiring brief tailored to your scope. We can also advise on alternative configurations such as the Omicron CP TD1 (paired with the CPC 100) for projects where the CPX 200 platform is not yet specified. Hire from our offices in Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide and Newcastle, with delivery Australia-wide.

Megavar engineers use this unit on commissioning projects across Australia. Hire it from a team that knows it inside out.
All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. If your project requires a specific calibration interval, test standard, or documentation for a client submission, tell us at enquiry on 1300 730 499 and we will confirm what applies before you commit.

The Omicron HVX10 is a compact 10 kV AC/DC high-voltage source that adds capacitance, dissipation factor (tan delta or power factor), and insulation resistance testing to the Omicron CPX 200 multifunctional test set. It is used for diagnostic testing of transformer bushings, grading capacitors on high-voltage circuit breakers, instrument transformer insulation, and for high-voltage ratio testing of voltage transformers up to 10 kV. The HVX10 enables two measurement procedures (tan delta and insulation resistance) in a single test setup.
No. The HVX10 is a system component designed exclusively for the Omicron CPX 200. It draws its power supply from the CPX 200 via a dedicated Booster IN cable and communicates with the CPX 200 via EtherCAT, using the CPX 200’s display, controls, safety interlock and software. The HVX10 must be hired or used together with a CPX 200. Megavar offers combined CPX 200 plus HVX10 hire packages.
The HVX10 generates up to 10 kV AC and DC, switchable between AC and DC operation without rewiring. The frequency range is 1 to 600 Hz, which is significantly wider than legacy single-frequency tan delta accessories. This wide frequency range enables a voltage and frequency sweep test procedure that detects moisture ingress, premature ageing and voltage-dependent insulation behaviour that fixed-frequency testing can miss.
Yes. Testing transformer bushings is one of the HVX10’s primary use cases. The HVX10 has four current measurement inputs, which allow up to four bushings to be connected to the test setup simultaneously. Each bushing is then measured sequentially without rewiring, sharply reducing ladder climbs and total test time. The HVX10 measures capacitance and dissipation factor on the main insulation (C1) and tap insulation (C2 or tap-to-ground) of condenser bushings.
Both accessories enable tan delta, capacitance, and insulation diagnostics, but they belong to different platforms. The CP TD1 attaches to the Omicron CPC 100 (the previous-generation primary test platform) and is the established choice for tan delta on transformers, bushings and surge arresters paired with the CPC 100. The HVX10 attaches to the new CPX 200 (released October 2025), offers a wider frequency range (1 to 600 Hz), provides four simultaneous current inputs for bushing testing, and integrates with the CPXpert software and CORTEX Grid cloud platform. Both are available for hire from Megavar.
Yes. With its integrated 10 kV DC source, the HVX10 performs insulation resistance testing with both Polarisation Index (PI) and Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR) calculations. Unlike traditional megohmmeters, the HVX10 can perform insulation resistance and tan delta in a single test setup; once the asset is connected, the operator can run both measurements in sequence without re-cabling, which is a substantial time saving on multi-bushing transformer or instrument transformer testing.
The HVX10 weighs 14.8 kg. It attaches to the CPX 200 using Omicron’s Click-Snap-Lock quick-release mechanism, which engages the mechanical, electrical, and EtherCAT communications connections in a single action. The two units can be connected for transport and use as a single integrated system, then disconnected just as easily for separate carry. The total CPX 200 plus HVX10 system stays under 30 kg, supporting backpack or trolley-case transport.
The HVX10 is supplied as part of a combined CPX 200 hire package, since it is not a standalone test set. Megavar offers several configurations: CPX 200 base unit only, CPX 200 with High Current Module (1000 A AC/DC), CPX 200 with HVX10 (10 kV AC/DC), or CPX 200 with both High Current Module and HVX10. Specify the configuration required when enquiring on 1300 730 499 or rentals@megavar.com.au, and we will quote the appropriate package.
Tan delta and power factor testing of transformer bushings is typically referenced to IEEE C57.19.01 and IEC 60137 acceptance criteria. Tan delta on instrument transformers is referenced to IEC 61869 and the asset owner’s relevant maintenance specification. Insulation resistance testing follows IEEE 43 for rotating machines or asset-specific manufacturer guidance. Megavar’s engineers can advise on the specific acceptance values that apply to your equipment and project, and CPXpert provides automated assessment against industry-standard limits.
Yes. Megavar provides full diagnostic testing services using the CPX 200 with HVX10, the CPC 100 with CP TD1, the Omicron MPD 600 partial discharge system, and the Omicron Dirana dielectric response analyser, depending on what your asset condition assessment requires. If your project needs a complete diagnostic service rather than equipment hire alone, contact us with your scope and we will quote a turnkey service delivered by experienced commissioning engineers.
