PFISTERER CONNEX grounding and current testing connector Size 0 available for hire from Megavar Australia
Description
The CONNEX socket is a separable bushing interface used widely on European-supplied transformers, switchgear, and instrument transformers. The Pfisterer 827 181-010 grounding and current test plug provides a way to inject primary current into the CONNEX-socketed circuit without disconnecting cables, removing bushings, or building temporary connections. The plug carries up to 250 A continuous, withstands 2 kV maximum test voltage, and provides a single M12 threaded stud for fast attachment of test leads from a primary injection set or earth-bond test instrument. The plug is rated for indoor and outdoor use across the temperature range -25 °C to +50 °C. Construction is suitable for substation-grade conditions, including offshore and soil-contact installations within rating. Megavar holds the Size 0 plug in fleet alongside Size 1 (827 181-011), Size 2 HV transition connector (827 186-212), and Size 3 HV transition connector (827 186-213), covering the most common CONNEX bushing sizes on Australian renewables, transmission, and industrial sites.
  • 250 A nominal current rating, 2 kV maximum test voltage; suitable for primary injection, current ratio testing, and earth-bond verification on CONNEX-socketed equipment
  • M12 threaded stud connection for fast attachment of test leads from any primary injection set, micro-ohmmeter, or DLRO
  • Bolts directly into matching Pfisterer CONNEX size 0 sockets; no equipment modification required
  • Rated for indoor and outdoor use, -25 °C to +50 °C, including offshore and soil-contact installations
  • Compact form factor (88 mm pitch circle diameter, 1.0 kg) for easy handling and storage on commissioning sites
  • Compatible with switchgear, transformers, instrument transformers, and any apparatus fitted with CONNEX size 0 sockets
  • Supplied with calibration certificate (where applicable to the application) and protective case
  • Primary current injection on CONNEX-socketed transformers, instrument transformers, and switchgear during commissioning, where a temporary low-voltage high-current connection to the primary side is required
  • Current ratio testing on instrument transformers fitted with CONNEX bushings
  • Earth-bond and continuity verification across the primary side of CONNEX-equipped plant
  • Grounding tests during commissioning of European-supplied substation primary plant on Australian renewable energy projects, transmission substations, and industrial sites
  • Routine maintenance access where the CONNEX-socketed circuit must be tested without disconnecting permanent cabling

Calibration

All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. If your project requires a specific calibration interval, test standard, or documentation for a client submission, tell us at enquiry on 1300 730 499 and we will confirm what applies before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions
PFISTERER CONNEX Grounding and Current Testing Connector (Size 0) for Hire

What is the Pfisterer CONNEX Grounding and Current Testing Connector (Size 0) used for?

It is used for primary current injection, current ratio testing, and earth-bond verification on switchgear, transformers, and instrument transformers that are fitted with Pfisterer CONNEX size 0 sockets. The plug rated 250 A nominal at 2 kV maximum test voltage. It is not a high-voltage pressure test connector; for HV AC withstand or impulse testing on CONNEX-socketed equipment, see the Pfisterer CONNEX Test and Transition Connector range (Sizes 2 and 3).

The plug body is inserted into the matching CONNEX size 0 socket on the equipment and bolted in place via the integral fastening. Test leads are then attached to the M12 threaded stud on the plug using a screw connection. No modification of the equipment is required.

Insert the connector into the matching CONNEX socket and secure it with bolts. Attach the test lead to the terminal stud using the threaded screw.

Within the 827 181 grounding and current test plug family, size denotes the physical CONNEX socket interface (pitch circle diameter, mechanical fit) AND the current rating. Size 0 is rated 250 A, Size 1 is rated 630 A, and Size 2 and Size 3 are both rated 800 A. All four sizes share the same 2 kV maximum test voltage. Note: the Pfisterer Size designation is reused across multiple product families. Size 2 and Size 3 in the 827 186 range refer to the HV Test and Transition Connector, which is a different product entirely, not a higher current variant of this plug.

Yes. The plug is rated for both indoor and outdoor use across -25 °C to +50 °C ambient. It is suitable for offshore and soil-contact installations within rating.

The plug is manufactured to Pfisterer’s CONNEX standards. The CONNEX socket interface family complies with EN 50180 and EN 50181 for outer-cone and inner-cone separable bushing connectors used on transformers and switchgear.

No. The Size 0 plug is rated 2 kV maximum and is intended for low-voltage current injection and grounding tests only. For HV AC withstand testing (up to 95 kV / 5 min) or lightning impulse testing (up to 200 kV BIL) on CONNEX-socketed equipment, the correct product is the Pfisterer CONNEX Test and Transition Connector (827 186 series), available from Megavar in Size 2 and Size 3.

Yes. Megavar engineers run primary injection and earth-bond testing on CONNEX-socketed plant as part of our day-to-day commissioning work. Technical support is available on call during your hire period; contact us on 1300 730 499.
