Commissioning Manager (HV Substations)
Location: Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle (with project travel across Australia)
Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering testing and commissioning, primary and secondary design, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. We're not a division of a large multidisciplinary consultancy. HV is all we do, and that focus means our people take on real site leadership responsibility earlier than they would in a larger organisation.
We're looking for a Commissioning Manager to lead primary and secondary commissioning on transmission substation and renewable energy projects, bringing engineers, test teams and contractors together from test planning to energisation, on greenfield sites and brownfield upgrades alike.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and coordinating primary and secondary commissioning on transmission substations and renewable energy projects.
- Planning commissioning programmes and reviewing commissioning plans, test records, ITPs and project documentation.
- Managing the technical risk, integration and complexity of large HV systems, including brownfield cutovers.
- Negotiating and coordinating outage plans with clients and network operators to keep projects on programme.
- Resolving complex technical issues on site and guiding the team through them.
- Working with project teams, clients and contractors to keep delivery realistic and on schedule.
- Coaching and mentoring our commissioning engineers.
What We're Looking For
- A degree in electrical or power engineering.
- At least 5 years' commissioning experience across substations and renewables, on both greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Strong knowledge of protection, control and power systems, Australian standards and project management principles.
- Proficiency with test and diagnostic equipment. Omicron experience is well regarded.
- Proven leadership of commissioning teams: motivating, delegating and resolving conflict.
- Extensive hands-on site experience, and the ability to step back and think strategically.
- Clear communication, from the site team to client executives.
- Willingness to travel nationally.
Why Megavar
- Lead commissioning on major transmission, BESS and renewables projects for clients including ElectraNet, TasNetworks, Downer, Zinfra, Acciona, Vestas and Goldwind.
- A capable commissioning team and Omicron test equipment behind you.
- Real influence over how Megavar's commissioning practice develops its people and methods.
- Flexible working arrangements, based in whichever of our Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle offices suits you, as part of a close-knit team across five offices.
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate moving interstate.
- An attractive salary package benchmarked to your experience.
