Electrical Designer (Distribution)
Location: Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle (with site visits as projects require)
Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering distribution design, primary and secondary design, testing and commissioning, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. We're not a division of a large multidisciplinary consultancy. HV is all we do, and that focus means our people take on real design responsibility earlier than they would in a larger organisation.
We're looking for an Electrical Designer to join our distribution design team, delivering overhead and underground distribution design on TasNetworks network projects and building your skills alongside experienced designers and engineers.
What You'll Be Doing
- Overhead distribution design and modelling from LV (415 V) to 33 kV.
- Underground distribution extensions and network upgrades.
- Site inspections and survey, and preparing scoping notes and design packages for client approval.
- Preparing bills of materials and design estimates.
- Applying TasNetworks and local utility design standards, with a focus on cost-effective, practical solutions.
- Liaising with clients, internal teams and external stakeholders through design and approval.
What We're Looking For
- An Advanced Diploma or degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience designing for an Australian distribution network business.
- At least 2 years' experience in electrical design of distribution networks. TasNetworks design experience is highly regarded.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Map.
- Site experience supporting distribution projects through construction and commissioning.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own design workload as your experience grows.
- Attention to detail and the discipline to meet deadlines.
- A current driver's licence.
Why Megavar
- Ownership of your designs from site inspection to approved package, without the layers of a large consultancy.
- Exposure to a broader HV design team that also delivers substation primary, secondary and SCADA design for clients including TasNetworks, ElectraNet, TransGrid and Downer.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Flexible working arrangements, based in whichever of our Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle offices suits you, as part of a close-knit team across five offices.
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate moving interstate.
- An attractive salary package benchmarked to your experience, with genuine opportunities for progression.
