Electrical Draftsperson
Location: Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle
Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering primary and secondary design, distribution design, testing and commissioning, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. We're not a division of a large multidisciplinary consultancy. HV is all we do, and that focus means our people take on real drafting responsibility earlier than they would in a larger organisation.
We're looking for an Electrical Draftsperson to produce the drawings behind our substation and distribution design work: schematics, layouts and wiring diagrams issued to network businesses and contractors across Australia. You'll work directly with our engineers and project managers, not at the end of a long queue.
What You'll Be Doing
- Producing accurate electrical schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams and general arrangement drawings in AutoCAD from engineers' mark-ups and design requirements.
- Working closely with engineers and project managers so drawings meet technical specifications and programme.
- Applying client drafting standards, Australian standards and Megavar's drawing conventions consistently.
- Checking drawings for accuracy and compliance before issue.
- Managing drawing registers, revisions and document control.
- Supporting site teams and stakeholders with drawing clarifications.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of drafting quality and efficiency.
What We're Looking For
- A diploma or relevant certification in electrical drafting or electrical engineering.
- At least 2 years' experience in electrical drafting, ideally on substation or distribution projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or related CAD software.
- Familiarity with HV electrical systems and substation environments.
- Strong attention to detail and the discipline to meet deadlines.
- Clear communication and a team-first approach.
Why Megavar
- Drafting on real HV projects for clients including TasNetworks, ElectraNet, TransGrid and Downer.
- Direct working relationships with the engineers whose designs you draw, and exposure to primary, secondary, SCADA and distribution work.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Flexible working arrangements, based in whichever of our Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle offices suits you, as part of a close-knit team across five offices.
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate moving interstate.
- An attractive salary package benchmarked to your experience, with genuine opportunities for progression.
