Frequently Asked Questions
AEMC 6471 Ground Resistance Tester

What the AEMC 6471 is used for?

The AEMC 6471 is a multifunction ground resistance tester covering 3-point fall-of-potential, 4-point soil resistivity, selective and stakeless measurement methods. That range makes it a single-instrument hire for earthing work: verifying electrode resistance, measuring soil resistivity for earthing design, and testing bonds and connections without disconnecting the system.

Typical hire scenarios: soil resistivity surveys ahead of substation or renewable earthing design, earth grid verification during commissioning, and periodic earth testing on existing installations. Megavar’s earthing engineers use these methods daily and can support test planning or run the survey for you.

 The 6471 supports:
• 2-pole and 3-pole earth resistance testing
• 4-pole soil resistivity testing (Wenner method)
• Selective and stakeless testing using clamps
• Bonding and continuity testing

  • Selective testing allows earth resistance measurements without disconnecting the ground using a current clamp.
  • Stakeless testing eliminates the need for auxiliary ground stakes and uses two clamps for fast, non-intrusive testing.

The instrument works with standard stakes and leads. For selective or stakeless testing, optional current and voltage clamps are required (can be rented with the unit).

Yes. The 6471 has a built-in noise rejection system and selectable test frequencies to reduce the effects of interference in high-voltage environments.

• AEMC 6471 unit
• 3 or 4 test leads and ground stakes
• Rechargeable battery and charger
• Carry case
• Quick-start guide
• Optional: Clamp set for stakeless testing (on request)
