All Megavar test equipment is maintained under a documented calibration programme. Instruments are calibrated either by external calibration laboratories or in-house against reference standards that are themselves laboratory-calibrated, with measurement traceable to Australian national measurement standards held by the National Measurement Institute. A current calibration certificate is available on request. It measures dielectric response characteristics to evaluate the insulation condition of HV equipment such as transformers, bushings, and cables—particularly the ageing and moisture content of paper insulation systems.
By applying a low-frequency AC or DC voltage and measuring the insulation’s response over time (PDC) or frequency (FDS), the Dirana can detect ageing, moisture ingress, and degradation that may not be visible through standard insulation resistance or tan delta testing.
Dirana measurements are aligned with IEC 60076-18 and IEEE C57.161 guidelines for moisture assessment in power transformers.
No. Dirana can assess moisture in paper insulation without requiring oil sampling or transformer disassembly, saving time and reducing risk.
Test time depends on the object size and frequency range, typically ranging from 1 to 4 hours per phase for full FDS analysis. Faster results can be achieved using the combined FDS-PDC method.
No. Testing must be performed on de-energised equipment with appropriate isolation and safety clearance.
